AN ACT Providing for directional signs on Interstate 24 for the City of Fayetteville.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, it shall be the duty of the Department of Transportation to erect and maintain directional signs that inform citizens and tourists of the most direct routes to various destinations within Tennessee, including the erection of such signs for the City of Fayetteville on Interstate 24 at Exit 127 (Pelham), both eastbound and westbound. Such directional signs shall indicate through appropriate language and standardized traffic symbols that U.S. Highway 64 West is the most direct route to the City of Fayetteville from Exit 127.

SECTION 2. The department may elect to include the information delineated in Section 1 on existing signage at Exit 127 on Interstate 24 as an alternative to erecting new directional signs.

SECTION 3. The erection of such directional signs shall be within the guidelines prescribed by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

SECTION 4. This act shall become operative only if the federal highway administrator advises the Commissioner of Transportation in writing that the provisions of this act shall not render Tennessee in violation of federal laws and regulations and subject to penalties prescribed therein.
