AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 7, Chapter 61 and Title 12, Chapter 9, relative to ambulance service.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-61-104(b), is amended by deleting subsection (b) in its entirety and by substituting instead a new subsection (b) as follows:

(b) Any two (2) or more counties and municipalities may enter into agreements with each other and with persons providing both emergency and non-emergency ambulance service for a county or counties on a county-wide basis, for joint or cooperative action to provide for ambulance service as authorized in this chapter.

SECTION 2. The provisions of this act shall not apply in any county having a population of not less than eight hundred twenty-five thousand (825,000) nor more than eight hundred thirty thousand (830,000) according to the 1990 federal census or any subsequent federal census.

SECTION 3. The provisions of this act shall not apply in any county having a metropolitan form of government and a population in excess of five hundred thousand (500,000) according to the 1990 federal census or any subsequent federal census.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
