AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-8-151, relative to criminal offenses involving school buses.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 55-8-151, is amended by deleting subsection (a)(5) and substituting instead the following:

(5)

(A) It is a Class C misdemeanor for any person to fail to comply with any provision of this subsection other than the requirement that a motor vehicle stop upon approaching a school bus.

(B) It is a Class B misdemeanor punishable only by a fine for any person to fail to comply with the provision of this subsection requiring a motor vehicle to stop upon approaching a school bus.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect on July 1, 1998, the public welfare requiring it.
