AN ACT to amend Chapter 96 of the Public Acts of 1997, relative to the issuance of orders for protection.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Chapter 96 of the Public Acts of 1997 is amended by deleting SECTION 2 which reads as follows:
This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, and shall continue in effect through August 31, 1998, the public welfare requiring it.
and substituting instead the following:
This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 36-3-601(3)(E), is amended by deleting the words and punctuation "general sessions, criminal and civil," and by substituting instead the words and punctuation "general sessions criminal court,".
SECTION 3. If any provision of this act or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the act which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to that end the provisions of this act are declared to be severable.
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
