AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-27-303, relative to providing for participation by school board members in the insurance plan authorized under Part 3 of Chapter 27 of Title 8.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-27-303(a)(3), is amended by adding the following after the first sentence of that subdivision:

A school board member of a local education agency participating in the basic plan authorized in § 8-27-302(a)(1) shall be permitted to participate in such plan if the member applies for participation prior to July 1, 1998, and pays the total monthly premium for the coverage the member selects.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
