AN ACT to designate a certain segment of State Route 91 in Carter County as the "Rondal B. Cole Memorial Highway".

WHEREAS, from time to time, this General Assembly has seen fit to name certain public highways in honor of those noteworthy Tennesseans who have given unreservedly of themselves for the betterment of their communities and their profession; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Rondal B. Cole was one such person, a highly respected attorney from Elizabethton whose contributions to the legal profession stand as a testament to the wisdom and character of this great man; and

WHEREAS, on June 7, 1996, Mr. Cole went to his greater reward, leaving a family and countless friends, whose relationships he cherished; and

WHEREAS, a native of Elizabethton, Mr. Cole attended schools there prior to earning a degree from Milligan College; he received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cole's record of proficient service to the good people of Tennessee included his faithful service in the U. S. Army and as an Assistant United States Attorney in Nashville; and

WHEREAS, for 35 years Rondal Cole was a partner in the law firm of Dugger and Cole, where he was well known by others in the legal profession for his ability and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cole represented his clients with the utmost in probity, diligently working to ensure they were given the best in legal representation; he was also an unflagging supporter of those less fortunate than himself; and

WHEREAS, as a means of recognizing this inimitable man for his astute service to the legal profession and citizenry of Tennessee, this Legislative Body deems it appropriate to establish a lasting tribute in his name; now, therefore,


SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the segment of State Route 91 in Carter County from its intersection with State Route 19-E easterly to the Johnson County line is hereby designated as the "Rondal B. Cole Memorial Highway" in honor of this extraordinary man.

SECTION 2. The Department of Transportation is directed to erect suitable signs or to affix suitable markers designating such segment of State Route 91 in Carter County as the "Rondal B. Cole Memorial Highway".

SECTION 3. The erection of such signs shall be within the guidelines prescribed by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
