AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-21-1001, relative to fees which may be demanded and received for register's services in any county having a population of not less than 68,100 nor more than 68,400, according to the 1990 federal census or any subsequent federal census.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 8-21-1001, is amended by adding the following language as a new, appropriately designated subsection:

(e)(1) In addition to any other fee permitted in this section or by law, the register of any county having a population of not less than sixty-eight thousand one hundred (68,100) nor more than sixty-eight thousand four hundred (68,400), according to the 1990 federal census or any subsequent federal census may demand and receive for such register's services a fee of two dollars ($2.00) for data processing for each instrument recorded in such register's office. Such fees shall be allocated by such county for the purchase of computer equipment, upgrades, supplies and maintenance used in the operation of such register's office.

(2) This subsection shall have no effect unless it is approved by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the legislative body of any county to which it may apply.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming law, the public welfare requiring it.
