AN ACT To designate a certain bridge on State Route 30 between Meigs and Rhea Counties over the Tennessee River as the "Washington Ferry Bridge".

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

WHEREAS, A newly-constructed bridge now spans the Tennessee River between Meigs and Rhea Counties where previously ferry crossings first provided important transportation routes to settlers and later to area communities; and

WHEREAS, As Tennessee embarks on its next two hundred years of statehood it is important for this legislative body to recognize those historical aspects that have played a significant role in the state's growth and prosperity; now, therefore,

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, the new bridge across the Tennessee River on State Route 30 between Meigs and Rhea Counties is hereby designated as the "Washington Ferry Bridge".

SECTION 2. The Department of Transportation is directed to erect suitable signs or to affix suitable markers designating such bridge as the "Washington Ferry Bridge".

SECTION 3. The erection of such directional signs shall be within the guidelines prescribed by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
