AN ACT To designate a certain bridge on State Route 165 in Monroe County as the "Charles Hall Bridge".

WHEREAS, From time to time, this General Assembly has seen fit to name certain public highways and bridges to honor and recognize those dedicated and public-spirited citizens who have distinguished themselves as invaluable servants of their respective communities; and

WHEREAS, Former Mayor Charles Hall of Tellico Plains is one such person; he served with industry as Mayor of Tellico Plains for 31 years and has given unselfishly of himself for the betterment of the Tellico Plains area; and

WHEREAS, Charles Hall was an original member of the "Cherohala Commission", which first proposed a scenic highway from Tellico Plains to Robbinsville, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall and members of the Tellico Plains Kiwanis Club played an instrumental role in sponsoring a "Wagon Train" from Tellico Plains to Murphy, North Carolina, in 1958; and

WHEREAS, A man of great integrity, probity and industry, Mr. Hall has evidenced great generosity and compassion for his fellow citizens; and

WHEREAS, He has stayed the course and labored assiduously on the state and federal levels to ensure the necessary funding to complete State Route 165; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall has been and continues to be a dedicated supporter of Tellico Plains, working to ensure a bright future for his fellow citizens and their progeny; and

WHEREAS, The commissioners of Monroe County have a need to permanently honor Charles Hall by naming a bridge in his honor; and

WHEREAS, This Body has always endeavored to accommodate the desires of citizens on local matters whenever it is feasible to do so; now, therefore,

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, the bridge that spans the Laurel Branch on State Route 165 in Monroe County is hereby designated as the "Charles Hall Bridge" in honor of this exemplary gentleman's life of purpose and commitment to the prosperity of his community and to Monroe County as a whole.

SECTION 2. The Department of Transportation is directed to erect suitable signs or to affix suitable markers designating such bridge as the "Charles Hall Bridge".

SECTION 3. The erection of such directional signs shall be within the guidelines prescribed by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
