Substituted for: House Bill No. 438

AN ACT To amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 6, and Chapter 975 of the Public Acts of 1996, relative to character education.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Chapter 975 of the Public Acts of 1996 is amended by deleting Section 5 in its entirety, and by substituting instead the following language:

SECTION 5. The Commission shall periodically report to the Education Committees of the House of Representatives and the Senate on its progress and shall report to the General Assembly no later than February 1, 1998. The Commission is terminated and shall cease to exist as of July 1, 1998, unless continued by action of the General Assembly.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring it.
